Khlong Toey Market

Khlong Toey is a very 'fresh' market, offering low prices on raw meat, seafood, farm produce, and a few other items (clothing, kitchenware, etc). It's also Bangkok's main sea port. This is where a great many goods are bought into the country.

The traders display their wares in a somewhat haphazard fashion, fish being sold alongside clothing for example, but there is always a wide range of goods to choose from. Be warned though: some of the smells can be rather overpowering.

The market is quite easy to reach using the subway. Take the train to the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center station. Leave the station using Exit 1. On reaching the street, head south toward the intersection with Rama IV Road. The market is directly ahead of you across Rama IV Road. You can use either of the two pedestrian bridges to cross the street. There's a small herb garden along Rama IV Road outside the market.

Pratunam

Is one of Bangkok's major markets, focusing on clothes which makes it Thailand's largest clothing market. The name Pratunam means Water gate.

The market is open 24 hours a day with various offers, from 9AM to 8PM (in reality, it's more like 11AM-6PM), the retail shops are open, and later on the evening, outdoor stalls mainly geared for tourists come to populate the street sides. It's located at the intersection of Ratchaprarop and Phetburi roads in the district Ratchathewi. This is maybe the cheapest market for buying clothes, fabrics and textiles in central Bangkok, while the Chatuchak Weekend Market probably is the low price leader. Other merchandise include watches, handicraft and others.

You can reach the market by BTS Skytrain Sukhumvit Line at Ratchathewi Station; from there, exit down the right-hand stairs, take a right at the next main intersection, Ratchathewi, and walk down Phetchaburi Road until you see Platinum department store, the market is directly across the street from Platinum Fashion Mall. Or exit at another BTS Chit Lom station, turn north (right) at the Gaysorn Plaza corner, Ratchaprasong intersection, and walk past BigC and CentralWorld to the next intersection of Pratu Nam.
